Calligrapher, Thangka painter, BA in Visual Arts (Hons)

Born in Great Britain, completed a three year course and received a BA in Visual Arts (Hons). At the age of 21 he became a Buddhist monk in the Tibetan Karma Kagyu order. Apprenticed for 17 years to Sherab Palden Beru, a master of Tibetan arts, during this time he learned the Tibetan language and worked as a scribe in the many forms of Tibetan scripts. Tashi Mannox worked under the guidance of Akong Tulku and calligraphy teachers in Sanskrit scripts such as H E Situ Rinpoche and Lama Peme Lodrub.

 

In 2000 Tashi left the monastery to pursue a career of an artist in Tibetan calligraphy and iconography. He exhibited in London, New York and LA. He is currently London based but soon will move to South Wales.

“Ultimately for the calligrapher, the expression of freedom can be described as pure and sacred in origin of heart. When the viewer sees the creation, this can also awaken and connect to the ‘sacred’ within, which after all, is innate in all of us”.
